The Horry-Georgetown Technical College Area Commission is the governing
board of the College. Members are appointed by the Governor on the
recommendation of State Senators representing the district in which the
nominee resides. The Horry-Georgetown Technical College Area Commission
is composed of three (3) Georgetown County representatives and six (6)
Horry County representatives.The
Area Commission meets every other month, with normally-scheduled meetings held on
the second Thursday in the Board Room on the College's
Conway Campus.

The Horry-Georgetown Technical College
Area Commission, a nine-member body, is an outstanding group of
dedicated, community-minded professionals, individually and
collectively committed to advancing higher education at and through
Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
It is our goal, each day, to provide
the policy guidelines and broad-based vision that promote and
ensures the success of the College, under the direction of its
President, H. Neyle Wilson, and accomplished by the efforts of our
wonderfully able team of professional faculty, staff and
administrators.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College is
a leader in higher education in our area and in the State, and I am
proud to be a part of what we’re accomplishing for the good of our
students, area business, industry and government, and for the
citizens as a whole.
Chair William Ken Richardson
has 9 years of service as a member of the Area Commission, since he
was first appointed by the Governor in 1998. A resident of Conway,
Mr. Richardson is the owner of Fowler Motors.

Chair Joe T. Branyon, Jr. has 16
years of service as a member of the Area Commission, since he was
first appointed by the Governor in 1991. A resident of Andrews, Mr. Branyon is a Certified Public Accountant. |
Secretary
W.H. "Bill" Murray
has 20
years of service as a member of the Area Commission, since he was
first appointed by the Governor in 1987. A resident of Pawleys
Island, Mr. Murray is a real estate broker with the Lachicotte
Company. |
Mr.
Brent D. Groome
has
5 years
of service as a member of the Area Commission, since he was first
appointed by the Governor in 2002. A resident of Conway, Mr.
Groome
is Chief Executive for Customer Operations at Horry Telephone
Cooperative. |
Mr.
Donald Helms
is
the newest member of the Area Commission,
appointed by the Governor in 2007. A resident of Conway, Mr. Helms
is owner of Helms Realty, Inc. |
Mr.
Herman C. Jones
has 31
years of service as a member of the Area Commission, since he was
first appointed by the Governor in 1976. A resident of Myrtle Beach,
Mr. Jones is the owner of Carolina Calabash Seafood, Captain
Benjamin’s Calabash Seafood 1 & 2, and Steere’s Calabash Seafood. |
Mr.
Y. Melvin Nobles
has 28
years of service as a member of the Area Commission, since he was
first appointed by the Governor in 1979. A resident of North Myrtle
Beach, Mr. Nobles is Partner with Grady Hardwick Construction
Company. |
Mr.
Ronald Talbert
has 1 year of
service as a member of the Area Commission, since he was first
appointed by the Governor in 2006. A resident of
Pawleys Island, Mr.
Talbert is an attorney
practicing in Andrews. |
Ms.
Orrie West
has 21 years of
service as a member of the Area Commission, since she was first
appointed by the Governor in 1986. A resident of Myrtle Beach, Ms.
West is the Chief Public Defender for Horry County. |
