Gilland Criteria

In order to be eligible for the John D. Gilland emergency loan you must meet the following criteria. Please review this list.

CRITERIA FOR THE JOHN D. GILLAND EMERGENCY LOAN

  1. The applicant must be a resident of Horry County.

  2. The applicant must be attending the Conway or Grand Strand campus.

  3. The student must be enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program.

  4. A student is eligible for only one (1) loan per academic year.

  5. The maximum loan amount to an eligible student is $200 there is a $10 processing fee added to the amount loanded that the student must repay.

  6. No loan will be issued to a student who is on academic probation.

  7. No loan will be issued to a first semester student who does not have pending financial aid to pay back the loan

  8. No loan will be extended if there is an outstanding, balance owed to the loan fund

  9. All grades, certificates, diplomas, degrees, and recommendations will be withheld until the balance due is paid. A student will not be able to register for the next semester if there is an outstanding loan balance.

  10. A loan recipient must sign a legally binding promissory note for payment Of the principal by the midpoint of the semester for which the loan is given. The due date is stated on the promissory of the loan application.

  11. A student who elects to leave school before the end of the semester is still responsible for the amount of money borrowed. Any refund that the student is eligible to receive will first be applied toward the loan amount owed. If the loan amount owed is satisfied, any remaining reffind then will be issued to the student.

If you meet all the criteria~ you must complete the application form and write a letter stating the following:

  • Amount of loan requested

  • How loan will be repaid

  • Why the money is needed

  • Sign your name and date
