What is the Early Alert System?     

 

 

An Early Alert is warning devised as a retention tool that was developed to assist at-risk students at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. The Early Alert System provides an initial warning for students who have been identified as having difficulties early in the semester. A faculty or staff member may refer a student for several reasons. Some of the reasons are:

 

Þ   Student displays inappropriate behaviors in class

or on campus.

 

Þ   Student needs assistance with career exploration.

 

Þ   Student has excessive tardiness and/or absenteeism

 

Þ   Student needs personal counseling or assistance dealing

 with social issues.

 

Þ   Student appears to have a disability or special need that

 needs to be addressed.
 

Þ   Student demonstrates a need for tutorial assistance.
