How did I get identified by the Early Alert System?
A faculty or staff member has noticed that, due to a particular reason, your work or behavior is not reaching the acceptable standards of Horry-Georgetown Technical College. It could be that the issue is attendance, grades, absences, tardiness, language or writing ability, or any number of possibilities. The purpose of the Early Alert System is to inform students of a significant academic issue early in the semester so that a support plan can be sought out and implemented. This could include tutoring, study groups, Early Alert workshops, a counseling appointment, a library tour, an appointment with your instructor and so on.
If you have been notified that a referral has been made, you need to contact the faculty or staff member who has made the referral for complete information regarding their concerns. Afterwards, you need to contact the support staff member that has been identified to assist with your support plan. Receiving an Early Alert Referral does not necessarily mean that a student is in danger of failing or dismissal from the college. However, it does indicate that an issue has been identified and needs to be addressed. Receiving an Early Alert Referral is not a part of the academic transcript of the student.
